Endota Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

Day Spa Review

The review had ended quite badly. With a crash in fact.

Luckily I was only reading about it on the wall of the bathroom at Endota Fortitude Valley while I was awaiting my session. Another journalist had previously visited Endota for a fabulous session and had a taxi run into the back of her car on the way home. Funny, she didn’t seem too stressed about it, and had put it down to the relaxing massage that she had just experienced at Endota. Good to hear she had such a sensational massage, however, I was a little spooked all the same, with that strange feeling you get when reading someone else’s story that could just as easily be your own…

Being in an Endota spa is like visiting an old friend. I’ve tried a number and the spa environment is familiar: welcoming warm, neutral colours, fresh green accents, clean comfortable surrounds. Here there were some tropical accents to remind you that you are in Queensland. A bit like long friendships, sometimes we can overlook the fundamentals, the elements that are sometimes taken for granted. Along with the consistent spa offerings, the service seems to match. The spa is quiet today, probably because it’s a Monday, and that makes it a great day to head in.

Rather than offer a separate changing area, here your treatment room becomes your rest home for the treatment sequence, changing, showering and getting dressed again are all done here. Rooms are themed for easy use, whether for wet treatments or just massage and facials. My therapist, Janna, very professional and engaging, offering information when asked for, and quietly competent during the treatments. After changing into a very comfortable gown, followed by a hot foot bath and cleanse, my session progressed as it began, very relaxed and attentive, and thoroughly professional. Janna moved through the stages with deft management, adjusting lighting, sound and drapery as needed.

On the table I was dry scrubbed, followed by a clay wrap using Western Australian clay. Initially the mud induces a cool feeling, however, once the towels and blankets were wrapped around me, the warmth was seriously relaxing, and I found myself drifting off to sleep while Janna provided an organic facial while the clay wrap dried. Starting with the cehami and orange gel cleanser, she followed with the aloe and jojoba face scrub. A face mask of honey and rosehip was followed by a avocado and grass lilly skin drink with certified organic rosehip oil.

Sitting up I found the clay had hardened into a creamy coloured smooth crust, and after a quick shower to wash off the wrap, I moved back to the table for the final body moisturise using lilly pilly body moisturiser with olive and macadamia oil.

Quality of Spa Experience

It was all choreographed very efficiently, moving from chair to table to shower and back to table with a minimum of interruption and no sense of impropriety. The atmosphere was structured with unspectacular instrumental music, mostly synthesiser, but some guitar. Although it was fairly bland, the music was not disruptive either. Janna was very good at her craft, and the whole experience was thoroughly relaxing and my skin felt very smooth and supple at the end of my time.

Endota Fortitude Valley is in a great location not far from the CBD of Brisbane, within a shopping and food precinct that is easy to navigate into and out of. They have a few dedicated car spaces out the front for easy access. Luckily for me, there were no taxis in sight as I drove out of the carpark.
