Those scary Brazilians

by Glenn Reynolds

or should I say Australians?

Do you feel the stretch coming? Slowly the sun is thawing us from a winter stupor, ready to hit the parks and beaches. Gyms will be bursting with eager beavers, working to tone muscle and feeling fresh.

Along with shedding a few kilos, why not clean up the act with some grooming at the spa? Waxing unwanted hair is becoming the most popular service that males request at spas. It seems that more men are wanting to take care of their appearance underneath the outer layers.

Those Brazilian waxes are still cringeworthy, but are becoming more popular. Mens Body Works, Orchid Day Spa and Man, What a Fuss are about the only day spas in Melbourne that advertise Brazilian waxes to men. It seems that most spas are happy to wax intimate parts of women, but not men.

A lot of beauty salons have removed this discriminatory practice, and have been offering full waxing menus to men for quite some time. Most practitioners in salons are women, so I don’t see why spas can justify being squeamish. Gaetana from Man, What a Fuss has never had a problem with clients becoming aroused during the process because, as she says, “as soon as the first strip of hair is ripped off, it kind of kills the mood” (in an article from The Age here).

In the latest parlance, waxing your intimates can be known as the:

  • Sack wax – removing hair from the scrotum.
  • Crack and Sack (or CS) – waxing hair from the cleft of your butt, along with the Sack.
  • Back, Crack and Sack (or BCS) – including the carpet on your back in the routine…

Where are your favourite places for waxing?
Have you had a BCS or similar and what do you think?
